CELBAN Preparation

As part of our commitment to training internationally educated nurses, we offer CELBAN preparation opportunities, which simulate an online test experience so participants can gain confidence. Our knowledgeable instructors will provide a professional, safe environment to help you practice and receive feedback on the verbal and written skills you need for success. We currently offer:

1. ICELBAN Speaking Assessment

The Institutional CELBAN (ICELBAN) is a practice version of the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses. We offer the ICELBAN speaking assessment in an online format.

2. CELBAN Preparation for Writing

In 2021, the official CELBAN will be administered online and one of the writing tasks is changing. With these materials and online format still in development, we do not have official ICELBAN Writing materials to use for training at this time. But don't worry - we are aware of the changes and have created our own online experience to help you prepare for your narrative report and opinion letter in a timed environment.

Who benefits

  • Anyone required or choosing to take the official CELBAN as their proof of language proficiency as part of the process of being licensed as a nurse.

Note: Prior to registering, we recommend you complete the free CELBAN Readiness Self-Assessment, review the CELBAN Centre’s tips and consult the CELBAN Practice Handbook. Visit celbancentre.ca for more preparation information.

Our 5-week and 10-week CCCN modules (now available as more compact subscriptions), were designed to help nurses develop the language skills needed to succeed on the CELBAN. The ICELBAN speaking assessment and CELBAN Preparation for Writing can be taken on their own if you believe you are ready - or as the perfect add-on to our CCCN modules or subscriptions. We also offer private coaching if you need to focus on specific skills with a trained language instructor.
